Western Digital My Book Essential Edition is an External Hard Drive with a capacity of 1 Tera Byte (TB) and USB 2.0 interface. In our Labs Transfer Test, Western Digital Essential 1 TB, was a bit slower when compared with the 2TB hard drive. The drive's USB 2.0 connection was able to transfer 1.3 GB of Assorted Data from our Test bed to the hard drive in 5 minutes, 3.0 seconds but from the Hard Drive to our Test bed, the drive took 18 minutes, 5.0 seconds. Oops! That was the slowest time we ever recorded for a data transfer.

In HD Tach’s Test the drive with 10% of CPU utilisation was able to score 14.8ms for Random Access, 32.6 MB/s Average Read and 35.01 MB/s for Burst Speed. In Sisoft Sandra’s Removable Storage benchmark even the drive managed a very low score. It scored as low as 945 ops/min for Drive Index and 2.2 for Endurance Factor. That was the slowest of all the drives. As for the Physical Disk benchmark, it scored 32 MB/s for Drive Index, with 8 ms for Random Access Time.
